SD5402 & SD5301 indexable insert drills
SD5402 and SD5301 drilling solutions for versatile applications. High-performance drills for productivity gains. The SD5402 large indexable insert drill is the latest evolution in our drilling solutions, replacing the SD542. This upgrade brings enhanced performance and reliability, thanks to a new Perfomax® design and improved manufacturing processes. If you are looking for a large diameter drill, the SD5402 offers similar benefits with the indexable inserts but with the added advantage of exceptional chip flow and stability.
Alongside this, we’re introducing a new addition, SD5301, to our lineup. The SD5301 features an extra short drill body, specifically optimized for mid-size turning machines where longer drills are often impractical.
With these two options, you can choose between a proven replacement for your existing large diameter drilling needs and a new solution designed for stability and precision in more compact setups.

Stability and precision for mid-size turning machines

Our SD5402 and SD5301 indexable insert drills are designed to make large diameter drilling simpler and more productive.
The combination of a sturdy, short drill body optimized for mid-sized turning machines where longer drills are impractical, combined with reliable insert geometries, means you can expect consistent results when drilling holes in any metal.
These drills are easy to use and fit a wide range of applications where a large diameter drill is needed ensuring unmatched stability, tight hole tolerances, and no deflection, even in demanding environments.
Your challenge: Drilling large holes can be time-consuming and often require multiple tool changes to reach the required hole size. And in mid-size turning machines, many standard solutions are too long for the set-up.
Our solution: The sturdy design of the SD5301 indexable drill fits perfectly in mid-size lathes so you get a straightforward, dependable tool that helps you complete every job efficiently, with fewer interruptions.
Keep the chips moving

Our drills feature optimized chip flutes with a wave pattern, which helps move chips away from the drill body and keeps your process running smoothly. The uncoated, polished drill body and laser hardening technology extend tool life, while the radial relief pattern prevents chip build-up.
Your challenge: Poor chip evacuation has a negative effect on hole quality leading to incorrect hole dimensions and bad surface finish.
Our solution: Advanced flute and relief designs keep chips moving and extend tool life, so you spend less time on maintenance and more time machining.
Consistency is key
Suitable for all industries, our drills handle a wide range of workpiece materials and applications in the stationary and rotating arena.
And with standard dimensions in stock and compatibility with a wide range of inserts, SD5402 and SD5301 cover all eventualities and deliver consistent results.
Your challenge: Finding a flexible option for large diameter drilling that works across multiple materials and setups can be difficult.
Our solution: Our versatile indexable insert drills provide cost effective choices with standard sizes in stock, ensuring reliable performance in any application.
Every little helps when it comes to the environment

We’ve removed the Ni-based surface coatings.
Both SD5402 and SD5301 feature uncoated, polished surfaces, helping to minimize the environmental impact.
Your challenge: Environmental regulations and sustainability targets are harder to meet with coated tools.
Our solution: Our drills support your environmental targets without sacrificing quality or reliability.

SD5402 and SD5301 working areas

SD5402 and SD5301 product families are designed to offer a safe and secure drilling process in both rotating and stationary applications.
The strength and stability of the drill body together with the optimized insert grade/geometries offers maximum productivity.
The SD5301 drill body configuration is set to suit mid size turning machines, offering an extra short setting length and smaller shank diameters. These drill bodies offer a pre-finishing hole diameter for roughing operations and lathe applications.
The SD5301 drill body offers the possibility to machine to required dimensions with one single tool.
Due to the short and stable drill body (no deflection) tight hole tolerances are achievable.
